Santa Cruz Film Festival Offers FREE Lectures and Presentations May 6-15
From Environmental Impact to Chinese Medicine: Events Take Audiences Beyond the Films
The Santa Cruz Film Festival, an annual celebration of independent cinema and culture in California’s Greater Monterey Bay area, invites the public to its FREE lectures, panels and other events. The Santa Cruz Film Festival is not just a Film Festival – it's an Experience! Film and event information, as well as tickets and All-Access Festival Passes, are available online now at www.santacruzfilmfestival.org.
The Festival will be presenting 133 films from 13 countries including 40 that were locally-produced. The Festival is also presenting numerous free panel discussions, presentations and performances related to the 2010 film programming.

THE HOOPING LIFE PERFORMANCE AND AFTER-FILM PARTY – Friday, May 7, 10:30 PM

Performance Art by The Hoopalights, HoopGirl & Hoopalicious! Innovative Hoop Dance moves and dazzling tricks are highlighted and framed by flashing and pulsating Hoops combined with fun dance beats and creative costumes.
PANEL: MY JOURNEY AT PIXAR, FROM NEMO TO UP. A DISCOVERY IN ANIMATION - Saturday, May 8, 1:00 PM
Digital Media Factory, 2809 Mission Street Extension at Swift
Paul Topolos – UCSC Alumnus and digital matte painter with Pixar Animation Studios describes the innovative work philosophy at Pixar and more. Presented by the Digital Media Factory in association with the Santa Cruz Film Festival, UCSC and Pixar.
PANEL: THE WO/MEN’S ALLIANCE FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA – , Saturday, May 8, 3:00 PM
SCFF Filmmaker HUB, 1101-F Pacific Avenue (entrance on Cathcart)
Experts featured in the documentary, La Vie en Verte: The WAMM Movie, explore topics related to the medical marijuana issues seen in the film. The panelists will discuss the film, the recent settlement of the WAMM lawsuit against the federal government, the “tax and regulate bill,” the history and future of WAMM, end of life care and more. The Santa Cruz Film Festival celebrates the film's World Premiere.

Filmmakers from Santa Cruz Film Festival’s EarthVision section discuss the impact of independent films on the environment and culture. Presented by Community Television of Santa Cruz County and Solar Technologies, Inc.
PANEL: HEALING THROUGH CHINESE MEDICINE – Wednesday, May 12, 3:00PM

Five Branches University, sponsors of the Locally Grown program and the film, Semshook, will present and discuss healing through Chinese Medicine.
PANEL: LIFE AFTER FILM SCHOOL – Friday, May 14, 12 Noon

Post-School, Real-World Strategy. Filmmakers discuss methods to maintain support networks, develop a resume and bio, hone creativity, and create a reel, while breaking into the industry. Filmmakers will reflect on their early experiences, how they did it, and what they would do differently. Presented by the Digital Media Learning Foundation and the Santa Cruz Film Festival.
